Unsolicited advice from an Honours student

When Olivia Robins started uni, she had it all planned out. The lesson she learned when she realised those plans weren’t right for her has a ring of familiarity for students at all stages of their uni careers.

A brief word to all those first year university students studying Commerce: there’s something special about the first weeks of uni. It’s not the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends (though that’s obviously a good thing). Nor is it the chance to get involved in all kinds of different activities on and around campus (through broadening your horizons is a worthy pursuit).

Dear ESSA members, attendees to our official launch event, and my wonderful committee,

Wow. I’m speechless, and well, you know me, I’m rarely speechless!

The sight I arrived to on Thursday night was phenomenal, I could hear the buzz and chatter all the way from the lifts! The vision we’ve always had for ESSA has finally become a reality: A room full of people getting to know each other, talking Economics and exchanging numbers.

Academic Advice Day Launch!

Our new ESSA banner at today’s AAD Launch!

Today was ESSA’s first public appearance at University of Melbourne’s Academic Advice Day!

While the first year Commerce students of 2012 gathered for Academic Advice Day at the Spot, Joan and Esther set up an information stand along with other Commerce societies in the foyer. With the lure of a shiny exhibition banner and lollies for bribery we got to work recruiting.
