Publications Team
Directors Welcome
2024 has proven to be a year full of dynamic shifts and unprecedented challenges in the Australian and global economy. As we step into a future shaped by technological advancements and growing sustainability concerns, the publication team at ESSA Clayton dedicates this year’s Short Supply towards equipping oneself with knowledge amidst the ever-changing economics world, hence the theme “Beyond Predictability”.
In this edition, we explore emerging uncertainties: geopolitical shifts, technological advancements and increased migration and how they are intertwined with our understanding of economic predictability. Economic models are approximations for reality, and we hope these articles serve to ground this theoretical basis with the complexity of issues in the real world.
Launched in 2015, Short Supply served as a platform for economics students and enthusiasts to network and contribute their perspectives on an annual theme of economics. With writers coming from different backgrounds and degrees, we attempt to dive deeper into unconventional economics issues and hope that our readers would have an insightful and enjoyable read!
This year’s Short Supply would not have been possible without the support and tenacity of many people. We would wholeheartedly like to thank our wonderful team of writers and editors for their continued hard work and resiliency, especially Milena Knight and Emily Rowe for their diligent and tireless efforts in ensuring the quality of this magazine and other projects within publications; our sponsors for their continued support and article contributions; and the ESSA Committee for their dedication for ESSA as a whole.
If you are a Monash student with an interest in economics and passion for writing, we usually welcome new writers in March and October, which follows for other roles within ESSA. Our recruitment process for 2025 can be found on page 32 of this magazine.
Lastly, to our readers, thank you for choosing this year’s issue of Short Supply. We hope you gain new insights along your path in the vast world of economic thinking. At last, happy reading!
